JM Family associates, at all of our business locations, are committed to community service.

Community Involvement

At JM Family, one of our top priorities has always been to give back to the communities in which our associates live and work.

We consider it our corporate responsibility to share our success by helping others. Our philanthropic efforts are focused in the areas of families, education, multicultural diversity, the arts and health.

What A Difference A Day Makes Logo

What A Difference A Day Makes!, our newest initiative, was developed from associate feedback. This unique program partners JM Family with non-profit organizations to complete several one-day community projects. Working together, JM Family associates and their family members demonstrate how much we can accomplish in just one day! Current partners include Kids In Distress, Daily Bread Food Bank, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County.

The goal of this program is to prepare young adults who are at a disadvantage in their lives to become self-sufficient, productive, law-abiding citizens.

Corporate Giving Guidelines

(printer-friendly version)

When: Charitable gift/sponsorship requests are reviewed as they are received. Corporate Communications asks all organizations to allow four to six weeks for review and research of a request.

How: Corporate Communications requests that non-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) status who are seeking funding provide JM Family Enterprises with the following information:

  1. A written request, preferably on the organization's letterhead
  2. Background information on the organization to include, but not be limited to: name of organization, address, telephone number, fax, contact person, address, telephone number, fax, history, mission, population currently served, key personnel, Board of Directors and Trustees
  3. Request a specific dollar amount of funds and provide the specific proposed use of those funds
  4. If the request is related to an event, provide the event name, date, time, location, table and individual ticket prices, sponsorship levels and costs, entertainment, program journal advertisement sizes and deadlines, confirmed sponsors, guests of honor, guest speakers, auction and purpose of the event
  5. If the request is for merchandise or an in-kind donation, follow the instructions in #4
  6. Include any proposed donor recognition for the gift
  7. Include a copy of the organization's 501(c)(3) certificate
  8. List of other corporate contributors
  9. Deadline for response.

JM Family's corporate giving guidelines advise the following:

  1. Gifts are focused primarily on families, education, multicultural diversity, health and the arts. This strategic focus allows us to maximize our community investments by having greater impact in targeted areas
  2. Gifts are targeted to the geographic areas where the company has major business operations, including South Florida [Broward and South Palm Beach counties]; Jacksonville, Florida; Mobile, Alabama; St. Louis, Missouri; Commerce and Alpharetta, Georgia; and Dallas, Texas
  3. Gifts to organizations/industries falling outside of the above parameters, including homelessness, the elderly, mental health, recreation, social services, veterans, etc. and organizations without non-profit certificates, are discouraged
  4. Gifts to individuals; individual public, private or parochial schools; clubs and troops are discouraged

Corporate Communications will contact the organization to confirm the request and coordinate the check, check presentation, donor recognition, press release/public service announcement, associate volunteer component; to determine management participation; to obtain a copy of the organization's non-profit certificate; through a letter and/or telephone call.

Why: Companies large and small have a responsibility as good corporate citizens to support nonprofit organizations and events/activities in their communities. For JM Family Enterprises, it is an important way of helping to improve the quality of life in the communities where our associates live and work.

What to do: Refer any requests to Corporate Giving

JM Family associates who forward charitable requests have the opportunity to provide input and are kept informed of the status of their request during the review process before a final determination is made and communication is given to the organization. Associate requests will be reviewed under the same process mentioned above.
