Celebrating its 25th year of changing lives, the Youth Automotive Training Center (YATC) in Deerfield Beach — established in 1984 by automotive legend and JM Family Enterprises founder Jim Moran — has helped give a jump start in life to almost 500 at-risk youth, including Maxu Daceus, 26, who graduated from YATC in 2002. When Daceus heard about the program through a neighborhood police officer and mentor at age 18, he was a high school dropout and had been using drugs since he was 11 years old. He ran with a crowd that stole cars and robbed stores and admitted that his life “was not on a good road."
