JM Family Engages Associates with Fun Events During Annual United Way Campaign

They could have just written a check to show their support for United Way of Broward County’s community initiatives. Instead, associates at JM Family Enterprises recently participated in a month-long fundraising campaign comprised of games, challenges, raffles, and various other associate and United Way staff engagements, such as luncheons to learn more about the nonprofit’s outreach.

The nautical-themed campaign, dubbed “All Onboard for United Way”, raised $378,227, $50,000 more than last year’s effort. JM Family gets associates involved by educating them on why their support and contributions are so critical to helping the nonprofit carry out its mission. 

Throughout August, Colin Brown, president and CEO of JM Family, communicated with South Florida associates about United Way and the activities planned to support the fundraiser. He challenged everyone to get All Onboard for United Way to surpass last year’s fundraising total.

“The enthusiastic participation of our dedicated associates once again proved their commitment to supporting the important work of United Way of Broward County,” Brown said. “I am so proud of what they have accomplished in this year’s campaign, and grateful that we can continue helping United Way’s effort to identify challenges, create awareness and develop services to build a better life for people in need.”

“United Way Wednesdays” were held during lunchtime when associates participated in fun cruise-style activities like testing their knowledge of popular songs with Finish the Lyrics, guessing words and phrases with Heads Up, a 50/50 BINGO, and the Co-Worker Game (JM Family’s take on the Newlywed Game). Participation in the events increased chances of winning final raffle prizes, which included electronics, boat trips, Dolphins tickets and more. 

“JM Family’s associates put their hearts and dedication into this year’s campaign, and you could really see how much fun they had doing it while raising much-needed dollars for our community,” said Kathleen Cannon, president and CEO of United Way of Broward County. “Their unique ways of engaging their associates raised dollars and awareness for all of the partners we fund and all of the initiatives we have. We cannot do the work we are doing without the support of organizations like JM Family.”

Another way JM Family associates put the “fun” in fundraising was by forming a band called The Associates to compete in United Way’s annual “Rock United,” where members of the business community partake in a battle of the bands. The Associates performed on stage in front of hundreds of audience members at Revolution Live night club in Fort Lauderdale on September 12 for the third year in a row and won against six other participating rock groups.
